Strengthening Taiwan–Japan Collaboration in STEAM Education
From October 4–9, 2026, Dr. Chih-Jung Ku, Assistant Professor in the International Master Program of STEM Education at National Pingtung University (NPTU), visited Kyushu University for academic exchange and research collaboration.
Supported by NPTU’s 2026 International Research Grant, the visit provided an opportunity to further develop collaboration with Dr. Leon Loh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Design Futures, Faculty of Design, Kyushu University, in the areas of STEAM education, technology education, and design-based learning.
During the visit, Dr. Ku was invited to deliver an English-medium session in Kyushu University’s Design in General Education course, sharing Taiwan’s STEAM education development from national policy to K–12 classroom practices. Dr. Ku and Dr. Loh also visited Hiroshima Municipal Gion Higashi Junior High School, where they exchanged ideas with the school principal and technology teacher Mr. Igari Katsuya, gaining first-hand insights into technology education in Japanese schools and discussing STEAM practices in Taiwan and Japan.
And the collaboration continues! 🌏
In November, Dr. Loh will visit NPTU, hosted by the International Master Program of STEM Education, College of Education. The visit will include co-teaching, a roundtable discussion with faculty and students, and visits to Taiwanese schools, laying the groundwork for future Taiwan–Japan collaborative research and international curriculum development.
From research exchange and EMI co-teaching to school visits and future collaborative research, our program will continue expanding its international academic network and creating more opportunities for students and faculty to learn, connect, and collaborate across borders. 🌏
